Veritas, Inc. is a biotechnology services company, located in Rockville, MD, that provides
technical and consulting services to customers in the commercial, defense and academic sectors.
The company's staff has broad experience in methods development and experimental design,
providing a strong and flexible base for contract research. Over the past seven years, Veritas
has collaborated with scientists at USAMRICD on mechanisms of action of Botunlinum neurotoxin
(BoNT) and with scientists at WRAIR on malarial vaccine development. The latter work resulted
in novel methods for genetic design of recombinant proteins that is the basis of a jointly-held
patent application.
Veritas is also involved in early-stage development of products and technology platforms for
biotechnological and biodefense applications. In 2003, Veritas was awarded a contract for
development of food safety assays for BoNT from the Technical Support Working Group (TSWG).
The TSWG work was based on proprietary, patent-pending fluorescence methods for detection of
BoNT activity. In 2005, Veritas received funding under NIH s BioShield program for development
of small molecule therapeutics against BoNT. Veritas currently receives funding, through
subcontracts with major academic centers, to study C. difficile and Shigella toxins with the goal
of producing assays for high throughput (HTS) drug screens.
