Wicked Science
Something strange is happening in
Science – rather than the normal odd
chemical smell, the corridors have smelt of
freshly cooked pancakes. The course
reflects the new National Curriculum and is
very engaging for pupils.
Mr Lo, KS3 Co-ordinator for Science,
explained, “It’s the new Year 7 Science
course called Wicked Science. Although it’s
a lot of fun and the boys really enjoy it, the
Science is still very challenging and the boys
are making great progress.”

Year 7 Rugby
The Year 7 Rugby Team remained
undefeated over the season. Despite only
three of the boys having played rugby before
they played 13 games, winning them all and
collecting three trophies: Lewisham
Borough Championship, The Bexley &
Bromley Cup and The Kent County Cup –
beating a Specialist Sports College team in
the process.
Years 7 & 10 Football
The Year 7 Football Squad won the Reg
Burr 7-a-side Memorial Trophy at the
Den – winning five league matches and
beating St Matthews 2-0 in the semi-final
and Bacons in the final. Unfortunately they
were unable to follow up this success in the
Blackheath Cup Final against Eltham Green.
The Year 10 Football Team won the Inner
London Cup beating Woolwich Poly 2-0 – a
very well deserved first trophy for this year
group having played 15, won 14, lost 1. Let’s
hope this record remains intact after next
month’s Blackheath Cup final against Knights
Academy.
Athletics
Well done to the Athletics Squad on
their convincing victory in the recent
Lewisham Schools’ Athletics Championships.
As a result 15 members of the squad
have been selected to represent Lewisham in
the forthcoming London Championships.
Congratulations to all the boys who took
part in all the above.

Jack Petchey’s Speak Out
Challenge
Andrew Watkins receives his award
In March 2009 50 of our top Year 10
English students were chosen to take part
in Jack Petchey’s Speak Out Challenge.
They were given coaching and plenty of
practice in public speaking with Michael
and Rose from the Jack Petchey
Foundation. Sukhjinder Singh Pannu and
Andrew Watkins were selected as the
strongest speakers from these workshops
and as a reward they then had the
daunting opportunity of speaking in front of
the whole school at assembly.
Both boys demonstrated their skills well,
proving to be articulate, confident and
thoroughly engaging speakers. Andrew
Watkins was chosen to represent Forest
Hill School in the Lewisham Borough final
at Addey & Stanhope School, and was
highly commended for his very impressive
speech entitled “Political Correctness”.

Cleaner School Campaign
To promote the House Captains’
‘Cleaner School’ image we set up a
poster campaign encouraging all years to
enter the competition. The winners were: for
the best design, Aaron-Lee Griffiths (H8G)
and, for the best slogan, Kavit Thakrar
(D7G). Congratulations to all our winners
and look out for their winning design on
display around the school.
