Introduction
The Gas Chain
If you are new to the energy business,
moving into the energy business from
elsewhere in the industry or looking to
broaden your understanding of energy and
LNG around the globe, The Gas Chain is an
essential course.
From untapped reserves to market trading,
this five-day course takes you through
every stage of the gas chain. Exploration,
development and production; pipelines,
storage and LNG; and markets, trading and
contracts are all covered.
During The Gas Chain you will learn how the
different links in the chain work together
and where companies create value. The
course is delivered through interactive
workshops, presentations, group exercises
and multimedia.
Experience real-life business
scenarios
The Gas Chain includes three exercises set in
the fictional region of Gazania. These exercises
will enable you to understand the issues and
dilemmas facing the world’s energy companies.
Exercise 1: Gazania investment options
How big is your appetite for risk? Take a chance
on successful upstream development, enter
the utility business, or integrate downstream
operations.
After the course you will

• What natural gas is and how gas reserves
are identified, developed, and brought
from gas fields to the customer through
pipelines and as LNG
• How the gas chain is managed: The
commercial gas chain, political factors, tax
and royalties
• The principles underlying trading gas
contracts, pricing and tariffs
• How gas markets operate globally with a
specific focus on Europe and Russia
