2013 PAs Trending CONFERENCE HIGHLIGHTS CAPA Student Medical Challenge Bowl – Aqua CME We’re back poolside for the Student Medical Challenge Bowl. On Saturday afternoon, just as the sun begins to set behind the mountains, the game begins. You won’t want to miss this fun, light-hearted, Jeopardy-style game show format event. PA students answer questions in order to vie for the championship title, the coveted Student Challenge Bowl Trophy and cash prize for the winning program’s Student Society. It has become a highlight of the CAPA Conference and so much fun to watch (and learn). So, bring your sunglasses, have a beer or soft drink, grab a lounge chair and see who will win this year’s CAPA Student Medical Challenge Bowl. Students! 2013 PAs Trending HOTEL AND GENERAL INFORMATION Conference Hotels – Book Your Room Directly with the Hotels We have a very special room rate at the Renaissance. Just $194. CAPA Conference attendees enjoy $5 parking and $5 in-room Internet (normally $10 and $12.50 respectively). We also have rooms blocked at the Palm Springs Hilton. Both hotels are downtown within blocks of all of the Palm Canyon Drive activities. The Renaissance is connected to the Palm Springs Convention Center. All lectures and workshops take place at either the Renaissance or the Convention Center. The Hilton is just a short walk away. The Renaissance and Hilton are offering the CAPA Conference rate a day or two before and/or after the CAPA Conference. Make your reservations now. The hotels will sell out quickly. You must book your room no later than August 19, 2013 in order to take advantage of the special rate (assuming there are rooms left in the block on that date). You should call the hotels directly. Be sure to mention the CAPA Conference to receive our special group rate of $194 per night at the Renaissance and $165 per night at the Hilton. Please note: The hotels will be cross-referencing reservation names with our registration list to ensure that everyone who is holding a reservation under CAPA’s block at the special rate is also registered for the CAPA Conference. Those who are not registered for the CAPA Conference by the hotel cut-off date (August 19, 2013) will be moved outside of the CAPA block and a higher rate will apply. What to Wear Business casual attire is the standard dress code for the daily sessions. Come planning to have a good time, socialize and learn. The fall weather in Palm Springs can be rather warm. All meeting rooms are air-conditioned so you will want to bring a light sweater or jacket. Child Care Child care services are available through the hotel concierge. Advance arrangements are suggested. Exhibit Hall You must be registered for the conference in order to enter the Exhibit Hall. Name badges will be required. If your spouse or guest would like to join you in the Exhibit Hall, CAPA Student Medical Challenge Bowl, The Dance and/or American PA Idol you may purchase a guest/spouse badge for $25. Please mark the appropriate box on the registration form and be sure to include your guest’s name so that a name badge can be made. You are encouraged to visit the Exhibit Hall, spend time with and thank the exhibitors who support our conference. Exhibit times are listed in the conference program. Refund Policy To receive a refund, registrants must return their registration receipt to: CAPA, 2318 S. Fairview St., Santa Ana, CA 92704 or fax to (714) 427-0324. There will be a $50 service charge on refunds from August 17, 2013 through September 6, 2013; a $100 charge for refunds made from September 7, 2013 through September 21, 2013; no refunds will be made after September 21, 2013. Accreditation This program is not yet approved for CME credit. Conference organizers plan to request 23 hours of AAPA Category 1 CME credit from the American Academy of Physician Assistants. Total number of approved credits yet to be determined. Physician assistants should claim only those hours actually spent participating in the CME activity. These totals include optional workshops. This program was planned in accordance with the AAPA’s CME standards for Lecture-Learner Programs and for Commercial Support of Lecture-Learner Programs. Important Notices • Name badges are provided for all registrants and MUST be worn for admittance to all activities except The Dance on Friday night, American PA Idol competition and Student Medical Challenge Bowl. • Guests of registrants must register if they wish to access Exhibit Hall. • Children under the age of 18 (including infants) will not be admitted to the Exhibit Hall or CME sessions. • Hands-on workshops are optional and require a separate registration fee.
