the water level can range up to 0.8 m (Stevaux et al.,<br />

2009). The Ivaí River (Figure 3, lower) does not have<br />

any dams <strong>in</strong> its hydrographic net <strong>and</strong> presents a<br />

completely natural regime, with flood peaks higher than<br />

ten times the mean water level (Meurer, 2008). The<br />

ra<strong>in</strong>y <strong>and</strong> wet periods can happen <strong>in</strong> any time of the<br />

year <strong>and</strong> change each year, present<strong>in</strong>g no seasonality<br />

(Destefani, 2005; Girardi Jr., 2008).<br />
