<strong>Industrial</strong> <strong>Organization</strong> Society<br />
The <strong>Industrial</strong> <strong>Organization</strong> Society (IOS) was founded in 1972 by Stanley Boyle,<br />
working closely with Willard Mueller. The aim was to promote research on competition<br />
and market power in real-world markets, and on antitrust and regulatory policies. Boyle<br />
headed the IOS, with a governing Board of distinguished scholarly economists.<br />
The IOS is responsible for the Review of <strong>Industrial</strong> <strong>Organization</strong> and more recently has<br />
initiated annual awards for the Best Paper by a Junior Scholar in the Review, as well as a<br />
Distinguished Fellow Award presented to a leading scholar in the field. The IOS has<br />
long sponsored sessions at the meetings of the American Economics Association and the<br />
Southern Economics Association. More recently, it has launched this <strong>International</strong><br />
<strong>Industrial</strong> <strong>Organization</strong> <strong>Conference</strong> in order to accommodate the needs and interests of<br />
the burgeoning field.<br />
