Indian Register of ShippingCertification Scheme for Type Approval of Products__________________________________________________________________________________________iv)The type tests proposed are appropriate to the product and adequate todemonstrate that the performance provisions of the specified standard(s) canbe fulfilled;v) Certificates and reports previously obtained and independently witnessed,may be accepted in whole or in part;vi)vii)The specified standard(s) is appropriate to the product and its intendedpurpose’The manufacturing facilities, manufacturing processes and quality assurancesystem are adequate and appropriate to the type of manufacture and test to beundertaken to ensure uniform quality of product;4.3.2 A design analysis may be used to assess performance where:i) There is evidence, in the form of performance measurements from similarproducts, to substantiate the findings of the analysis;ii)iii)The analysis method is recognized by IRS and is well established;It is mutually agreed that type tests cannot be performed or are inappropriate.4.3.3 On completion of the initial design review and acceptance of the application, the localIRS office will be instructed to liaise with the manufacturer in order that dates forinspection and type testing may be arranged. Where applicable, environmental testingwill be included in the type testing.4.3.4 If IRS is not satisfied that all the requirements for the type approval are being met, thelocal IRS office, where applicable will be advised of appropriate recommendations tobe made to the manufacturer.4.4 Inspection and Testing4.4.1 Review of the Organization4.4.1.1 An inspection of the manufacturer’s works will be carried out by IRS Surveyor to theextent that he judges to be necessary fir the work involved. The inspection is toensure:that the works is properly equipped with satisfactory test and measuringequipment, gauges etc., appropriate to the type of manufacture and testing to beundertaken and the facilities exist to enable the accuracy and serviceability ofsuch equipment to be maintained to the satisfaction of the Surveyor; andPage 5 of 13 December, 2012
