Instructions to Chairs,Presenters, and Discussants1. Please adhere to the times printed in theprogram. Each session presentation is assigned aspecific time. If you have a no‐show, use thetime for a discussion of the preceding paper(s)or for a recess. Do not shift papers to fill voids,as individuals may want to attend a particularpaper.2. Each paper should be allocated 30 minutes(assuming 4 papers per session), with 20minutes allocated for the presentation, 5minutes for discussant, and 5 minutes forgeneral questions and answers from theaudience. A handful of sessions have 5 papers.Sessions with 3 papers should start at theallocated time, with 30 minutes total allocatedto each (including discussant and generalquestions). The last 30 minutes should be usedfor open discussion.3. Hold each individual to the time allotted. If aspeaker continues after time has expired, rise,ask those present to join you in thanking thespeaker, and announce the next presentation.The audience and other speakers will respectand support your decision.4. Please be considerate of the next session byensuring your session is completed at theappropriate time and that the room is vacated intime for the next session to set up.5. Each paper is assigned a discussant to reviewand offer constructive comments on the paper.The discussant should come prepared to provideapproximately 5 minutes discussion of thepaper. Possible speaking points include its meritsand questions’ regarding methods, data, orfindings – a summary of the paper is neitherexpected nor appropriate. As a presenter, we12
