Registration and BeyondRegistering for Classes: After selecting courses, receivingyour adviser’s approval, obtaining electronic clearance (you willlearn about this at Orientation or from your transfer adviser),and once your registration appointment time has arrived,you will be able to register on Albert. You will receive specificinstructions about registering for classes at Orientation or fromyour transfer adviser, and you can review these instructions onthe Gallatin website at: www.gallatin.nyu.edu/academics/registration/undergraduate.html.note: You will not be able to access Albert to register until youenter your emergency contact and cell phone information onAlbert, and clear any registration blocks you may have. Beforecoming to Orientation or attempting to register, you should logon to Albert to enter your emergency contact information andyour cell phone number. Also, make sure there are no blocks onyour record by clicking the DETAILS hyperlink under the HOLDSsection of the <strong>Student</strong> Center on Albert.Financial MattersPaying your Bill: Registering for classes generates your tuitionbill, which is sent to you electronically as an “E-Bill” via yourNYU email account. Be aware that the University does notmail paper bills. You will receive complete information aboutE-Bills from the Office of the Bursar, and you can get moreinformation online at www.nyu.edu/bursar/ebill/faq.html. TheUniversity sets tuition payment deadlines each semester. Forspecific deadlines, see: www.nyu.edu/bursar/payment.info/dates.html. <strong>Student</strong>s who do not meet the payment deadline will bedropped from their classes.Your <strong>Student</strong> RecordsOnce you have registered, you will be able to view your scheduleof classes and account on Albert anytime. Eventually, you willbe able to see an unofficial version of your transcript with thegrades and credits you have earned and also a degree progressreport that will allow you to keep informed about which degreerequirements you have fulfilled and which ones you must stillcomplete before you can graduate.FERPA: If you are 18 years old and enrolled in classes at aninstitution of higher learning, the federal Family EducationRights & Privacy Act (FERPA) stipulates that your academicrecords belong to you. This means that a university is notpermitted to release information about your record to anyone,including your parent or guardian, without your explicitconsent. NYU will therefore communicate informationabout your record (transcript, grades, tuition bill, housinginformation, etc.) only to you. Please be informed about this lawand make sure to read all email sent from NYU offices to yourNYU email account. It is your responsibility to pass informationabout your record (i.e., tuition bill) to your parents or otherparties who may be managing or coordinating your businessfor you. For more information about FERPA, see: www.nyu.edu/registrar/university-policies/ferpa.html.Financial Aid & Tuition Bills: If you have applied for financialaid, you will be notified of any award (i.e., scholarships, grants,student loans, federal work study) directly by NYU’s Office ofFinancial Aid. The Office of the Bursar will apply your financialaid to your tuition bill to reduce your outstanding balance. Usethe Financial Aid and Bursar tabs on Albert to check on yourawards and tuition bill.Tuition Insurance and Tuition Refunds: Because financinghigher education is so costly, it will be helpful for you tobe informed about tuition insurance and the Universityrefund policy for dropping classes. Because there may befinancial penalties for dropping courses after the first day ofclasses in a semester, the University recommends that youpurchase tuition insurance.
