IMPORTANT HISTORICAL ADDITIONS TO THE GUITAR REPERTOIRE:
FIRST MODERN PUBLICATION OF 3 HISTORIC GUITAR CONCERTI
These 3 attractive early Classical Concerti were all published between c. 1797 and 1804, and
with the Lhoyer Concerto, are the earliest known guitar concerti. The Vidal Concerto is the
the earliest known surviving guitar Concerto. All may be performed with string orchestra or as
chamber concerti (with a string quartet).
Charles Doisy’s arrangement of Viotti’s Violin Concerto No. 18 for Guitar and String Quartet is
also an early example of a guitar transcription from a famous violin work. Vidal’s Concerto and
particularly the Grand Concerto of Charles Doisy are good and typical examples of early 19th
Centrury French Concerti in their own right.
Each Concerto comes in 2 versions - Score and set of orchestral parts,
or Guitar Part with Piano Reduction. Suggested cadenzas are included
OUR NEW SCHUBERT EDITION:
ORIGINAL GUITAR MUSIC NEWLY EDITED FROM CONTEMPORARY
SOURCES WITH HISTORICAL NOTES BY STEPHEN MATTINGLY.
Carefully researched and edited by Stephen Mattingly and with a Preface by
Thomas Heck these new editions put this beautiful music into historical
perspective.
The 15 Dances for Violon/Flute and Guitar which are re-engraved in a new
practical performing score are based on Diabelli’s original transcriptions
from the 1820s and make attractive duo repertoire for middle grade players.
The Quartet after Matiegka is edited from Schubert’s original manuscript
with Historical Notes and a Critical Commentary. It is a welcome new
critical edition of important original chamber repertoire with guitar.
Schubert’s works for Male-Voice Choir with guitar accompaniments are
published here for the first time in a modern edition. Historically it is known
that they were also often performed with guitar accompaniments. They
appear to have only been more often performed with four single voices but
work well also with choirs. They are available either together or separately
- in either case with or without a separate optional guitar part.
