The Board also directed theOrganization and Bylaws Committeeto rewrite the language for thecommittee and the BBYA chair wasdirected to notify staff of the change●●●●●●●●●in wording for the field nominationform (Board agenda item 17).Voted down the motion to create anew booklist of YA books with adultappeal, as it does not support themission of the association (Boardagenda item 18).Established a task force to develop aproposal, including funding elements,for a student member conferencescholarship, as requested per Boardagenda item 20, and to report back tothe Board by Annual <strong>2007</strong>.Voted down the request to establish astanding committee to create a gaminge-list (Board agenda item 21).Established a Nonfiction Award TaskForce to develop a proposal for thisaward and to report to the Boardwith their findings at Annual <strong>2007</strong>, asrequested per Board agenda item 22.Directed <strong>YALSA</strong> staff to henceforthinclude the Board liaison’s name onthe committee chair Web site reportforms, per the suggestion of NickBuron.Adopted the Reference and UserServices <strong>Association</strong> (RUSA) methodof evaluating committees on a twoyeartrial basis, after which the processwill be evaluated and the Board willdecide whether to continue using thismethod (Board agenda item 25).Created a task force to select thewinners of the Excellence prizes andplan the Annual 2008 conferenceprogram. The Task Forcewill be asked to make revisions andissue a report by the spring conferencecall, with a final document to bedelivered by Annual <strong>2007</strong>.Voted to accept the resolution,authored by Christine Allen, DivisionCouncilor, to be presented toCouncil concerning <strong>YALSA</strong>’s fiftiethanniversary.Resolution for <strong>YALSA</strong> FiftiethAnniversaryWhereas the Young Adult <strong>Library</strong> Services<strong>Association</strong> (<strong>YALSA</strong>) the fastest-growingdivision of the <strong>American</strong> <strong>Library</strong><strong>Association</strong>, celebrates its fiftieth anniversaryin <strong>2007</strong>;Whereas <strong>YALSA</strong> has served youngadult librarians and teens in communitiesnationwide since 1957, when the YoungAdult Services Division (YASD) wasformed;Whereas in 1990, the division’s namewas changed to the Young Adult <strong>Library</strong>Services <strong>Association</strong> (<strong>YALSA</strong>);Whereas YASD/<strong>YALSA</strong> has recognizedthe special focus and place of youngadults in libraries, and has steadily built onits original mission, “to advocate, promote,and strengthen service to young adults aspart of the continuum of library service,and to support those who provide serviceto that population”;Whereas the ability to adapt andchange through the years has allowed<strong>YALSA</strong> to remain relevant for fifty years;Whereas formats of media continueto change, and <strong>YALSA</strong> has continued toidentify emerging media of interest toteens in its media selection lists and theOdyssey Award;Whereas historically successful programsand services for young adults havebeen planned and presented for and withteen involvement;Whereas young adults are encouragedto participate directly and indirectlyin <strong>YALSA</strong> programs and activities as partof <strong>YALSA</strong>’s mission to facilitate positiveyouth development;<strong>Spring</strong> <strong>2007</strong> | Young Adult <strong>Library</strong> Services | YALS 53
