On that day a Biodiversity Symposium was held in hishonor. The meeting was arranged by his wife, the closestcolleagues of his research group Zoosystematics &Morphology, present students, former doctoral and diplomastudents and candidates for the state examination, as well asby numerous academic companions at home and abroad,who have accompanied him throughout his studies andactive years. With this surprise we honoured Prof.Schminke, who celebrated also his 65th birthday on 29September.“You are one of the first professors at OldenburgUniversity whom we biology students contacted”, said TimMigawski and Sebastian Rakers in their laudatory speech on29 September 2006. “During our first semester you gave usbeginners, who had just left school, an understanding ofzoology.
