The treatment is mathematically rigorous butrigor is not the primary aim. Beginning with a general theory of iterationfunctions, it develops the theory of one-point and multipoint iterationfunctions without and with memory. A compilation of iteration functionsis presented, the literature is thoroughly referenced, and areas forfuture research are outlined. The book is essential for those working innumerical analysis.The author is a long-time member of the staff of the Bell TelephoneLaboratories. It is essentiallyrestricted to the author's own research.The book is well written and easily understood, provided the readerhas some facility with tensor analysis. It should be accessible to a widevariety of readers. <strong>Vol</strong>ume 11, the larger volume, treats the "hardware"of digital circuits, and familiarity with basic electronics and electromagneticsis assumed. For one's personal study, or for a two-semestercourse for science or engineering students, these volumes should be wellreceived. They would ordinarily be too much for a one semester course,particularly for students with scant training in the relevant electricalscience.
