February 6, 011 South Amboy-Sayreville Times Talk Of The Towns By Tom Burkard Sister Mary Gomolka Celebrates 60 Years South Amboy native, Sister Mary Gomolka was honored with a huge gala celebration for her 60th Jubilee as a nun. Congratulations to Sister Mary Gomolka who is a fine and dedicated lady, and one of the kindest people you could ever meet. God Bless, you always! Von Gonter Gets $1,000 Scholarship Nicole Von Gonter of Parlin was presented with a $1,000 journalism scholarship by the New Jersey Sports Writers Association at its 75th Anniversary Banquet recently. Nicole has spent 3 years as the Sports Editor of the Kean University student newspaper. Congratulations! In Memoriam Mary Westbrook, 75, of South Amboy died on Jan. 16. She was a very kind-hearted lady, always friendly to all. Edmund “Eddie Rev” Revolinsky, 83, of Parlin died on Jan. 23. He was Past President and Ex-Chief of President Park Independent Fire Co. In addition, “Eddie Rev” was a Democratic Committeeman for the 12th District. He also tended bar for Shachel’s Bar and Jolly K in Parlin. Stanley Gutkowski, 87, of Sayreville died on Jan. 29. He was co-owner of Sun- Glo Bakery in Sayreville for 42 years until he retired 28 years ago. In the 1960’s, he had a daily route throughout South Amboy and Sayreville, bringing fresh pastries, rolls, rye bread, and more through the different neighborhoods. It was curbside service at its finest, and customers would go outside to his light blue truck and purchase items for their families. John “Jack” Nemeth Sr., 70, of South Amboy died on Feb. 2. He was a proud member of Enterprise Snorkel Co. for 49 years, and a really great guy. Ignatius Spina, 88, of South Amboy died on Feb. 4. “Iggy” as he was affectionately known by his friends, was a very mild-mannered person who was kind to everyone. Ann Henry (r), is Carol’s proud mother. Sister Carol, a South Amboy native, and 1966 graduate of St. Mary’s H.S., founded Mercy Center in 1986. The establishment is an all-purpose center for those in need. The goal is to help people become self-sufficient, not just in the immediate future, but for the long term as well. Fundraiser For Breast Cancer Research- Feb. 27 Christopher Deibert, the executive director of music at St. Mary’s Church will be wrapping up his solo organ recital tour on Feb. 27, at 4 p.m. at St. Mary Church in South Amboy. The performances are for the benefit of the National Breast Cancer Foundation, which he has given as part of his role with the Military Order of the Collar (MOC) of St. Agatha of Paterno.
