The Mayo is thegeneral purpose surgical scissor in which the blade occupiesapproximately one third of the length of the scissor. The 14cm straightMayo is the standard veterinary surgical scissor. The Metzenbaum is afiner lighter scissor in which the blade occupies approximately onequarter of the scissor length. Using a 14.5cm metzenbaum rather than a14cm Mayo will give you a finer scissor but a similar working distance.Each style of scissor is available in four different qualities which varyaccording to blade construction and cutting characteristics.
