Recent developmentsinclude the 20-acre Fields Bridge Parkalong the Tualatin River in the Willamettearea, the 10-acre Tanner Creek Park adjacentto Cascade Summit, and the 15-acreRobinwood Park at the end of FairviewWay. A Marylhurst area park is alsobeing developed. Of the more than twentyparks the city owns, 51-acre WildernessPark is the largest. Wilderness Park occupiesa heavily wooded hillside overlookingcentral West Linn and the WillametteRiver. With the exception of the trails,it is maintained as a natural forestedarea. The popular and well-used 20-acreWillamette Park offers a home for youthsports, community events, and summerrecreation. A boat ramp and floating dockTrilliums bloom every spring in parks throughout the West Linn area – like this one In Mary S. Young State Park.Parks, Recreation and Eventson the Willamette River are popular onhot summer days. Cedar Island Park isa natural area on the Willamette Riverthat includes trails, wildlife-viewing platforms,a boat ramp, a floating dock, anda floating bridge for pedestrian access toCedar Island via Mary S. Young Park.Other city parks offer picnic benches,play equipment, basketball hoops, androom to run or just relax.West Linn also has one of Oregon’s mostremarkable nature sanctuaries, as cited ina recent issue of Sunset magazine. TheCamassia Natural Area, owned by theNature Conservancy of Oregon, is hometo an exceptional diversity of rocky wetmeadows, woodlands, and more than 300native plant species. The 26-acre preserveis named for the camas lily which bloomsprofusely there in the spring.The 127-acre Mary S. Young Park ismanaged by the city under a cooperativeagreement with Oregon State Parks andis a dog-owner’s favorite spot for hikingand wildlife watching.
