This wine-growingarea is dotted with fairy-tale castles and enchants gourmets, romanticists and nature fans similarly.Route charàcteristic:You mainly cycle on mounted cycle tracks or bank tracks, usually beside roads and on calm sidestreets. The cycle path is well signed.Itinerary:DAY 1: Individual arrival in <strong>Mainz</strong>The city is 2000 years old and worth a visit Churches and sacred buildings, Roman excavations, abeautiful old part of town and numerous museums. Moreover the contemporary witnesses likethe cathedral or the parish church St. Stephan with windows from Marc Chagall and manymonuments are worth seeing.DAY 2: <strong>Mainz</strong> - Rudesheim-Assmannshausen/Bingen (approx. 35 km)The 1st bike tour leads you to the UNESCO world heritage <strong>Rhine</strong> valley. You follow gentle winegrowinghills passing the wine-grower village Eltville. The <strong>Rhine</strong> river gently passes the <strong>Rhine</strong>gau,is up to 800 m broad and forms islands in the river. Enjoy a glass of Riesling - that wine is famousin this area. We recommend you to visit the former Cistercian abbey Eberbach, the setting of thefamous movie ,,The Name of the Rose”. You stay overnight in Rüdesheim, where the Drosselgasse,a very famous street, invites you for a taste of wines or simply for a stroll By cable railway youcan go up to the Niederwald-monument, where you have a wonderful view over the <strong>Rhine</strong> valleyand the ,,Binger hole” Overnight in RUdesheim-Assmannshausen or at the opposite <strong>Rhine</strong> shorein Bingen.DAY 3: Rudesheim-Assmannshausen/Bingen - Boppard (approx. 46 km)Before you reach the Loreley, that is steeped in legend, you pass an area along the <strong>Rhine</strong> that isdotted with castles. Kaub is a recommendable place for a first stop. The village is wedged inbecause of the <strong>Rhine</strong> shore and the steeply raising Rhenish shalestone measures. Castle Gutenfelsovertops the <strong>Rhine</strong> and castle Pfalzgrafenstein lies in the <strong>Rhine</strong> - both are very impressive. Yourovernight is in Boppard. a viticultural village. From a lookout point called ,,Vierseenblick” you canenjoy a gorgeous view over the <strong>Rhine</strong> loop.DAY 4: Boppard - Koblenz (approx. 21 km)The biggest1oop of the <strong>Rhine</strong>, so-called Bopparder Hamm, is scheduled today. Braubach lies at theopposite <strong>Rhine</strong> shore with its’ well-preserved medieval castle Marksburg. Passing Lahnstein andthe confluence of the Lahn and the <strong>Rhine</strong> you reach Koblenz, that is situated at the estuary of theMoselle. The so-called ,,Deutsches Eck” (German Corner), the electoral palace and the fortressEhrenbreitstein are just 3 of a great variety of sights.Page2of4
