junior | nnamdi ugonnamen’s | Track and FieldS E A S O N P R E V I E W12The <strong>Greenville</strong> <strong>College</strong> men’s trackand field program has becomea dominating force over thepast ten years. After winning elevenof the last twelve NCCAA NationalChampionships, the <strong>2007</strong> Pantherstook second place indoors and finishedthe outdoor championships only ninepoints from victory with their thirdplace finish.The indoor season saw recordbreaking performances from JarodRenford in both the 55M and 60Mhurdles, Rodney Oyler in the 800Mand 600M, as well as Josh Bond in the1000M. The season also producedNCCAA Champions Giovonni Sykes inthe triple jump and Matt Rush, DanielCunningham, Nnamdi Ugonna and B.J.Rudd in the 4x200 relay. In addition toindividual accomplishments, the teamproved to be as tough as ever with arunner-up performance at the Illinois<strong>College</strong> Early Bird Invite and a victory atthe Depauw Classic in Greencastle, IN.The Panthers carried theirindoor success to the outdoor arena,finishing in the top five of every meetuntil the NCAA Division III NationalChampionships. Jarod Renford andRodney Oyler continued to impress asthey set new school marks in the 110hurdles and the 800M, respectively.Oyler qualified for the NCAA DIIInational championships duringhis freshman campaign runningan impressive 1:52.57. The NCCAAoutdoor championships brought theprogram three more individual nationalchampions in Giovanni Sykes (triplejump), Ryan Garnett (400M), and JarodRenford (110 hurdles). Renford alsoqualified for the NCAA Division IIINational Championship meet at theUniversity of Wisconsin – Oshkoshwhere he earned All-American honorsby way of his eighth place finish in the110 Hurdles.
