City as Our CampusTeresa DeFlitch Appointed asCity as Our Campus Director<strong>Winchester</strong> <strong>Thurston</strong> welcomes Teresa DeFlitchas Director of City as Our Campus. In this newposition, DeFlitch will lead WT’s efforts to expandand enhance its unique City as Our Campusinitiative and help other schools replicate it.DeFlitch says, “I am excited to build on theexcellent work that WT has done to establishCity as Our Campus. Anchored in the rigorouscurriculum of <strong>Winchester</strong> <strong>Thurston</strong> <strong>School</strong>, City asOur Campus benefits WT students and Pittsburghby providing hands-on experiences that empowerstudents to grow into engaged citizens andlifelong learners. The program exemplifies the best in education practice, encouragingstudents to become young entrepreneurs, ready to solve problems locally and globally.”DeFlitch distinguished herself from nearly 100 candidates by demonstrating her understandingof participatory pedagogy and civic engagement, as well as her innovativeideas on ways to showcase City as Our Campus regionally and nationally. “Teresaconvinced all of us that she has the energy, intelligence, creativity, and knowledge tolead our school in this exciting educational venture,” says Gary Niels, Head of <strong>School</strong>.DeFlitch comes to WT after serving as Project Manager at the National HistoryEducation Clearinghouse of George Mason University’s Center for History and NewMedia in Fairfax, Virginia, where she managed a major national history project fundedby the U.S. Department of Education.She has held several fellowships, including a Public Humanities Fellowship at the JohnNicholas Brown Center for the Study of American Civilization, Brown University. Shehas presented at national and regional conferences and seminars on history and socialstudies education, museum program design, and the incorporation of digital mediainto teaching and learning practices, among others.
