New Math Courses (Grades 11, 12)Math and the FBI1 SemesterIn this course, students will study the mathematics used by law enforcement. Math andthe FBI course will relate mathematics to the television show NUMB3RS. Each weekstudents will learn about a variety <strong>of</strong> mathematical topics and activities related to theshow NUMB3RS, followed by the viewing <strong>of</strong> the episode. The students will be able to seethe mathematics that they just learned being put to use by the FBI. After viewing anepisode, there will be a discussion about the math and the social issues that come up.The course will cover but not limited to, quantitative literacy, algebra & functions,geometry & trigonometry, and statistics & probability.Mathematics <strong>of</strong> Games1 SemesterStudents will utilize skills and concepts mastered in Algebra and Geometry toinvestigate games and game theory. Students will engage in classroom investigations,hands-on activities, and written responses to the mathematics behind games. The classalso involves a project-based component in which students will research and modify agame.
