18 <strong>CITATIONS</strong> • MAY 2011HONORING HISTORY IN THE MAKINGby Jessica ArciniegaIn a first <strong>of</strong> its kind event, The Mexican American <strong>Bar</strong> <strong>Association</strong>,Women Lawyers, the Asian American <strong>Bar</strong> and the Black Attorneys<strong>Association</strong> came together April 7 to honor the first woman chief<strong>of</strong> police in <strong>Ventura</strong> <strong>County</strong>, City <strong>of</strong> Port Hueneme Police ChiefKathleen Sheehan and Oxnard Police Chief Jeri Williams, thecounty’s first woman <strong>of</strong> color Chief <strong>of</strong> Police. More than 85people attended the reception at the Tower Club to recognize thishistoric event and welcome the two Chiefs to our county and the<strong>Ventura</strong> <strong>County</strong> <strong>Bar</strong>. Attendees included Judge Brian Back, JudgeEllen Gay Conroy, District Attorney Gregory Totten, City <strong>of</strong>Oxnard Councilwoman Carmen Ramirez, Port Hueneme <strong>May</strong>orSylvia Muñoz Schnopp, Port Hueneme City Councilmember EllisGreen and representatives <strong>of</strong> Congresswoman Lois Capps’ <strong>of</strong>fice,<strong>County</strong> Supervisor John Zaragoza’s <strong>of</strong>fice and AssemblymemberDas Williams’ <strong>of</strong>fice.
