These are awarded primarily to youngerstudents or workers from countries where it is difficult to obtain funding to attend suchconferences.The Committee has awarded a total of US$4,300 for three travel scholarships to attendthe International Joint <strong>Plecoptera</strong>-Ephemeroptera Conference in Kiyosato, Japan, June2011. The recipients are Ms. Ram Devi Tachamo Shah (US $1,300), Mr. LucasSilveira Lecci (US$2,500) and Mr. Louis Boumans (US$500). Ms Shah is from Nepaland she will be presenting her work on the biodiversity, distribution and sensitivity ofmayflies and stoneflies in the Central Himalaya. As her work covers both Ephemeropteraand <strong>Plecoptera</strong> she has been granted a joint scholarship from both the <strong>Plecoptera</strong> andEphemeroptera Committees. The second recipient of a <strong>Plecoptera</strong> scholarship is LucasSilveira Lecci, a PhD. student at the University of Sao Paulo, Brazil. He will present hisstudies of the Gripopterygidae from the Paranapiacaba Mountains of south-eastern Brazil.Louis Boumans, a PhD. student at the University of Oslo is the third recipient. He willpresent his project on the intraspecific variation in western Palaearctic stoneflies, inparticular short-winged populations. These three students have also been awarded freeregistration by the Japanese conference organisers.In addition, the following six students of <strong>Plecoptera</strong> have been awarded free registrationby the Japanese conference organisers (presentation topic given in parentheses): SusannaCherechesova, North Ossetian State University, Russia (<strong>Plecoptera</strong> of River Urshdon,North Ossetia); Valentina Teslenko, Far East Russian Academy of Sciences,Vladivostok, Russia (Biodiversity of stonefly fauna in the Amur Basin); PurevdorjSurenkhorloo, Mongolian Benthological Society (Mongolian endemic <strong>Plecoptera</strong>); OlgaA. Loskutova, Institute of Biology, Komi Scientific Centre, Syktyvkar, Russia(Variation in wings and body size of Arcynopteryx compacta); and Jindřiška Bojková,Masaryk University, Czech Republic (Changes in diversity & distribution of <strong>Plecoptera</strong>in the Czech Republic after 50 years) [John Brittain].9
