The converter is missing from the vehicle.2. A state or local inspection program has determined that the existing converter has beenlead-poisoned, damaged or otherwise needs replacement.3. The vehicle is more than fi ve (5) years old or has more than 50,000 miles on it, and there is a legimate need for converterreplacement that has been established and documented. Vehicles 1996 and newer have an 8 year/80,000 mile warrantyon major emissions components. Consult your owners manual, specifi c warranty information on <strong>Catalytic</strong> <strong>Converters</strong>can be found on the EPA Website: http://www.epa.gov/otaq/consumer/warr95fs.txtIn order to establish and document that the circumstances permitting replacement of an original or missing converter with anaftermarket converter, the installer MUST include on the service invoice:• The customers name and complete address• The make, model, year and mileage of the vehicle• The stated reason for replacementWhere a state or local government has determined that a converter is damaged or needs replacement, the service or repair facilitymust retain a copy of the written statement or order by a proper government representative which indicates that the converter shouldbe replaced and attach it to the invoice.Where the replacement need has not been verifi ed by a proper state or local governement representative, the customer and arepresentative of the service or repair facility must sign a statement verifying that replacement is justifi ed. This statement, WHICH ISON THE FIRST PAGE (installer's copy) OF THE CONVERTER WARRANTY (see pages following) shall consist of the following:CATALYTIC CONVERTER LIMITED WARRANTY REG IS TRA TIONOWNER & VEHICLE INFORMATIONCustomer Name: _______________________________________Address: _____________________________________________City: ____________________State: ____ Zip: ______________Make: ___________________Year: _______________________Model:___________________Engine Size: _________________Date: ____________________Mileage at Installation: _________Replacement Part#: _________Invoice: _____________________INSTALLER INFORMATIONDealer Name: _________________________________________Address: _____________________________________________City: ____________________State: ____ Zip: ______________INSTALLATION STATEMENTThe U.S. Environmental Protection Agency requires that the following statement be read and signedby the vehicle owner and the installer of the replacement catalytic converter.<strong>Catalytic</strong> converters are emission control devices which are designed to last the life of thevehicle and do not normally require replacement. Furthermore, if the vehicle is properly usedand maintained, original converters are covered by the emissions control warranty for 5 yearsor 50,000 miles. Federal law prohibits repair businesses from replacing these devices exceptunder certain limited circumstances.In order to verify that the proper circumstances exist, the owner of the vehicle on which suchrepairs are made and facility representative must sign the following statement:The vehicle is over 5 years old or has more than 50,000 miles on it and the catalyticconverter required replacement because: ___________________________________________________________________________________________________The vehicle’s catalytic converter was missing when the vehicle was brought in.Facility Representative’s Signature: ______________________________________________Vehicle Owner’s Signature:_______________________________ Date: _______________Installers must retain copies of warranties, invoices andstatements for six (6) months, and the replaced converters (ifany) for at least 15 days from the date of installation of thereplacement converter, marked in such a way that they can beidentifi ed with particular customer invoices and statements andbe available for EPA inspection.INSTALLATION REQUIREMENTSThe Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has issued the following installation requirements. The converter must be:1. Installed in only one of three situations:• The converter is missing from the vehicle.• A state or local inspection program has determinedthat the existing converter has beenlead-poisoned, damaged or otherwise needsreplacement.• The vehicle is more than fi ve (5) years old orhas more than 50,000 miles on it, and thereis a legimate need for converter replacementthat has been established and documented.1996 and newer vehicles have an 8 year/80,000mile warranty2. In the same location as the original converter3. The same type of converter as the original converter(i.e. - oxidation, three-way or three way with air)4. The proper converter for the vehicle application asdetermined and specifi ed by the manufacturer5. Connected properly to any existing air injectioncomponents on the vehicle6. Installed with all the other required converters forthe particular application if more than one converterwas installed originally by the vehicle manufactureror, in the case of new aftermarket converters, ifmore than one converter was specifi ed by theconverter manufacturer; AND7. If a new converter, accompanied by the warrantyinformation card, filled in by the installer.Prior to installing a new converter, ensure that the engine is tuned to factory specifi cations and operating properly. Themanufacturer assumes no liability for damage or catalytic converter failure due to installation on a improperly tuned or maintainedengine.WARNING: <strong>Catalytic</strong> <strong>Converters</strong> operate at extremely high temperatures! Allow suffi cient time for the converter to coolcompletely before handling.10The following page contains an example of the warranty card provided with the catalytic converters sold in this catalog.INSTALLERS and OWNERS must complete the front and back of the top (White) sheet. Installers must retain the top (White)sheet. Failure to do so is a violation of the EPA guidelines and the Clean Air Act.
