The Air Force Academy managementstructure is depicted in Figure A-2. Thesenior staff comprises the StrategicSteering Group (SSG), which is responsiblefor overall management oversightof the strategic plan including sponsoringand prioritizing initiatives andapproving changes to the strategicplan. On behalf of the Superintendent,the Vice Superintendent is chargedwith the effective implementation ofthe strategic plan to ensure missionelements are executing their supportinginitiatives in a timely manner.Mission element vice commandersand the Deputy Director of Admissionscomprise the Monitoring andImplementation Team (MIT) withresponsibility to monitor the overallattainment of the strategic goals andobjectives. The Vice Superintendentchairs the MIT. The MIT will meetperiodically with the Superintendentand senior staff to review progressand to discuss any significantchanges to the goals or objectives.These meetings will also offer theopportunity to recommend changesto continuously align the strategicgoals and objectives with changingAcademy, Air Force and DoD demands.Specific MIT responsibilities include:• Meeting to confirm directionand modify objectives to meetemerging requirements• Recommending resources for newinitiatives (POM inputs and/orcurrent year fund reallocations)• Monitoring progress in achievinggoals and associated objectives• Reviewing semiannualperformance reports on thestrategic objectives• Striving to adequately balancethe costs associated withimplementing the objectivesagainst current obligations andadvocating for future fundingto pursue implementation asnecessary.U .
