Accessible by the WalnutStreet entrance. New Bedford, Dart -mouth, <strong>Fairhaven</strong>, and the sur -rounding areas were favored shorelanding spots for rum runners.Several known landing areas will bediscussed.The 18th Amendment, whichbanned the sale, transportation andmanufacturing of alcohol during the1920’s led to gangsters supplying themillions who wanted it. Rum runnerswere active during these days ofProhibition. Boats, in the darkness ofthe evening, trying to avoid thegovernment’s “Coast Guard”Revenuers from stopping the illicitdistribution of alcoholic beverages,stealthily unloaded their illegalinventory.The topic has been extensivelyresearched, and will provide aninteresting evening for all ages.Refreshments will be served.Although the lecture is free,donations are welcome.The evening’s presentation isorganized by Mark Badwey.
