The presentation highlighted the main characteristics of a professional learning community and explained ways that educators can analyze data for improved student achievement. Anglers could fish any public-access water of their choosing for the day. Listed below are the division, angler's name, home, and lake fished. The largest northern pike was landed by Dale Henthorne of Beloit on Lake Delavan. Adult bluegill division: First, Rodney Repta, Beloit, Lake Geneva; second, Roscoe Lucas, Beloit, Lake Delavan; third, James Lamb, Beloit, Lake Geneva; fourth, Boris Ogurtson, Beloit, Lake Delavan; fifth, John Saladino, Beloit, Lake Delavan. Adult crappie/perch (five fish): First, Alex Kosharek, Janesville, Lake Waubesa; second, George Meris, Beloit, Lake Geneva; third, Len Purdy, Janesville, Castle Rock Lake; fourth, Terry McLain, Beloit, Lake Delavan; fifth, Steve McMillian, Clinton, Turtle Lake. The youth division was once again well represented by some good little anglers. Youth panfish (five fish): Myles Symons, 10, of Janesville took home the gold. He was fishing Lake Delavan. Second went to Carl Saladino, 10, of Beloit, who was plying his skills on Lake Delavan. The great part of capturing that prize is that the fish will be mounted free, courtesy of Wildthings Taxidermy, so a real tip of the cap to Wildthings. Each year, some special awards are given out for unusual events that at one time or another can happen to us all. The selfexplanatory What Have You Done? award went to Tom Purdy, who had some cold, wet sleeves; he tried to recapture his fish by hand. The Crappy Day award went to Jim Long, who put two nice 31-inch-plus northern pike on the ice at Lake Delavan. Unfortunately, the minimum size limit on that lake is 32 inches. Not all was lost, however; as the award’s name implies, Jim received a free one-day Porta Potty rental thanks to Fred Rykoyski. Eric and Shelly Henry captured the Keeping Warm award. Mike, Sue and the entire staff of Rollette Oil on Madison Road in Beloit deserve a big fishin’ thank-you. * * * Be sure to check your new Wisconsin Hook and Line Fishing Regulations. As of the end of the day March 2, most inland waters were closed to game fishing. Panfishing is open year-round, as are some inland lakes and rivers. These open waters are listed. Also new for 2008: ice shelters must be removed by the end of the day the first Sunday following March 1 if you are south of Highway 64, and by the end of the first Sunday after March 12 north of Highway 64. Portable shelters can be used but must be removed if not occupied. Failure to remove it can cost you $248, or more if it breaks through.
