Please call 209-0430 or e-mailehagler@sjcfl.us if you are able to donate yourtime.Our 2010 4-H Family Jamboree was a great night full of food, music, dancing and fun! Thankyou to all who played some part in making this the “family-fun” success that it was. Our goalthis year was to focus more on friends, family and fellowship during this event. We scaleddown the auction portion and brought in the live music and square dancing! Many 4-H’ers andtheir family were spotted “doe-see-doe-ing” and “promenading” and everyone was seen enjoyingthe fabulous food prepared by Carol LaFleur and our very own Gourmet Gang 4-HCooking Club! Overall, we made over $6,000 and received a lot of positive feedback on thechanges that we made with this year’s auction. If you came and loved it...make sure tospread the word now, so next year’s will be even bigger and better!
34-H PUBLIC SPEAKING / SHARE THE FUN4-H Public Speaking ContestThe 4-H Public Speaking Contest will be held on Thursday, January 27, at 6:00pm in theauditorium at the Agricultural Center. While you are out of school during this holidaybreak, you may want to think about how you will participate in this competition. Speechtitles and categories will be due by January 21st to the 4-H Office . This program isdesigned to give 4-H’ers experience in the preparation and delivery of a 4-H relatedspeech. This contest requires you to recognize, organize and present information on a giventopic. 4-H’ers must acquire the ability to speak convincingly in public, expressing ideaseffectively with poise and confidence. Speech must be original and specifically related to4-H in some way. The entire speech does not necessarily have to feature 4-H, but everycontestant must, at some point in his/her speech, mention 4-H and its relationship to thematerial being presented. Youth will be judged on choice of material, relation to 4-H,comprehension & accuracy, organization of material, use of language, voice projection, eyecontact, poise and appearance. Wearing a 4-H patch, sticker or pin is strongly encouraged.Speeches by Senior 4-H’ers should be no less than 5 minutes and no more than 7 minutes inlength. Speeches by Junior and Intermediate 4-H’ers should be no less than 3 minutes andno more than 7 minutes in length.Please visit:http://florida4h.org/events/handbook/Programs/public_speaking.shtml for moreinformation and public speaking guidelines.Share-The-Fun Talent ShowThis activity is an opportunity for 4-H’ers to share their talents with others. Act classificationsinclude instrumental, vocal, dance, dramatic and novelty, and general. Acts may beindividual or group, but are limited to a maximum of five participants with a time range of3 to 5 minutes. All teams must be of the same age group (Jr., Int. or Sr.) to be eligible forDistrict competition.
