Choreography for Theatre,working with the director Yoshi OidaBerlin, Schaubühne 1996„MADAME DE SADE“a theaterplay from Y. MishimaMadame de Sade has been for me one of themost interesting experience for the work ofbody and mouvement in a theatreplay.Yoshi OIda, a higth interesting theatredirector and great actor, coming from theJapanese school of theatre (classicalJapanese theatre, Nô and Kabuki) and a longand strong experiece of work in Europewith the director Peter brook (who is doingwhat I will call a story telling style oftheatre). A non typical western concept oftheatre, giving a lot of importance to theuse of the body in the way of acting.And five great German actresses whodevelopped their art mainly with thedirector Peter Stein who contributed to thefame of the Schaubhüne theatre in Berlin.Those actresses were at this time workingwith the director Andrea Brett whose styleof theatre was very much in the lines ofPeter Stein’s one; a typical German schoolline; giving priority to the texte and thepsychological approach of a play.The situation was not easy and the conflicthigthly interesting. Yoshi is a director wholet the actors find their own way to the rolethey will have to play. He let the actorsgrow and try, and only intervene when hefeels that the actor is not playing true.
