<strong>Delaware</strong> Forest ServiceProgram and ServicesThe mission <strong>of</strong> the <strong>Delaware</strong> ForestService is to conserve, protect, and enhancethe forest and its resources forthe public through education, management,demonstration, promotion,and providing technical services in atimely and efficient manner.To achieve our mission, the <strong>Delaware</strong>Forest Service maintains <strong>of</strong>fices in allthree counties, and our pr<strong>of</strong>essionalsprovide a wide variety <strong>of</strong> servicesthrough several state and federallyfunded programs. These services aregrouped into three program areas—Forest Conservation, Forest Protection,and Forestry Education. Whilethe responsibilities and services <strong>of</strong> theseprograms overlap, they are each uniqueand help us achieve our objectives.The Forest Conservation Programhelps <strong>Delaware</strong>ans to better managetheir forest resources. It includes thefollowing services:•Forest management assistanceto <strong>Delaware</strong> landowners•Reforestation assistanceincluding low-cost tree seedlings•Community forestry technicalassistance and grants for citiesand towns•Marketing forest productsThe Forest Protection Program helpshomeowners and landowners monitor,maintain, and when possible, improvethe health <strong>of</strong> <strong>Delaware</strong>’s foreststhrough several services:•Wildland fire preventionand suppression•Enforcement <strong>of</strong> forest protectionlaws such as the Seed Tree Law andthe Erosion and Sedimentation Law•Forest pests—diagnosis andtreatment recommendationsThrough our Forestry EducationProgram, the <strong>Delaware</strong> ForestService educates <strong>Delaware</strong>ansabout the importance <strong>of</strong>our forests:•Management <strong>of</strong> three stateforests—Blackbird, Redden,and Taber—totalling more than15,000 acres•Education and informationprograms to increase publicknowledge <strong>of</strong> forestry issuesWe hope you will either visit one<strong>of</strong> our <strong>of</strong>fices, give us a call, orsend us an e-mail at:Austin.Short@state.de.us to learnmore about our services or if youwish to meet with a foresterabout your forests.
