Many of our Sisters were educated or taught at St. Elizabeth Academy, so there are some very deep connections to the Academy. We feel privileged to continue our support of and work with the leadership, faculty, staff, alumnae, parents, and young women who are educated at St. Elizabeth Academy. Leadership is key to creating a warm and friendly climate as we plan for the future of St. Elizabeth Academy. We are still grieving the loss of a very dedicated woman and principal, Susan Geldmacher, who served as principal for the past two and a half years and who died of cancer in January 2008. In February we appointed Christina Cheak to assume the position of principal for the remainder of this year and through the 2008-2009 school year. We are confident that St. Elizabeth Academy is in good hands with a very wonderful leadership and staff. We are proud that St. Elizabeth Academy continues to touch the lives and values of the young women who are educated here. We are proud of those women who have been educated at St. Elizabeth Academy and who have taken what they have learned into family, church, and society. Dear Friends, With profound gratitude and humility I accepted the position of Principal/Head of School of St. Elizabeth Academy on February 1, 2008. I have been inspired by the commitment and dedication of the Sisters of the Most Precious Blood, my predecessors, the board of directors, alumnae, parents, faculty, staff and friends of St. Elizabeth Academy. Guided by the mission and values of the Sisters of the Most Precious Blood I will continue to demonstrate my fervent belief in the strength and vitality of St. Elizabeth Academy. I am excited for the continuing opportunity to bring the mission of SEA to the young women we serve, witness their transformation and share with you the successes, opportunities and challenges from this past year. The 2008 school year marked the completion of the Empowering Women in Science Project. Funding for this $150,000 project was secured and the total renovation of our Biology, Chemistry and Physics rooms is now complete. Studio SEA, our Media Lab and Intra Broadcast Station continues to expand as it addresses the needs of our 21st century learners. In addition to the new look, Studio SEA is equipped with Imacs, a plasma TV, smart board, projectors, cameras and video recorders. The new on-line college tracking and Math enrichment programs contributed to the 100% college acceptance rate for the Class of 2008. A new kiln was added to the Art Department and preparations are being made for a new dark room. In order to better serve our diverse student body, a Gifted Program has been added to the curriculum. The new schedule coupled with a longer school day create an atmosphere of learning that enables our students to become critical thinkers, skilled collaborators and effective communicators. The SEA Bridge Program continues to transition and transform eighth grade girls into successful college applicants. In order to continue the transformation of young girls into successful women, St. Elizabeth Academy is currently engaged in long range strategic planning. Our strategic plan will prepare St. Elizabeth Academy for the challenges that all private Catholic high schools will encounter. The plan addresses our current operations as well as the need for capital improvements. The Planned Giving Program, renewed emphasis on the SEA Endowment and purposeful giving programs and events will allow St. Elizabeth Academy to embrace the future with confidence and resolve. Each year the Academy focuses on one of the core values of the Sisters of the Most Precious Blood Reconciliation, Presence, Hospitality and Response to Human Needs. These values are essential to our mission and make a St. Elizabeth Academy education truly unique. On behalf of the entire St. Elizabeth Academy community, please accept my heartfelt gratitude for supporting the true and lasting values of a St. Elizabeth Academy education.
