A Truly Global EndeavorThe Census of Marine Life is a global networkof researchers in more than 80 nations engagedin a ten-year scientific initiative to assess and explainthe diversity, distribution, and abundanceof marine life in the oceans. The world’s first comprehensiveCensus of Marine Life—past, present,and future—will be released in 2010.The Census gratefully acknowledges the financialsupport of numerous governments and organizationsfrom around the world. Moreover, many ofthe highlights in this report were only realizedthrough the generous collaborative spirit and unprecedentedcooperation of Census researchersand their international colleagues.
