WiNDOWS ON NObLES By JOHN HIrSCHElucidating the EverydayThese images are from an ongoing body of work comprised of tintypes of quotidian objects. Tintypesare a direct positive photographic process invented in 1853. Each image is made on a sheet of metalthat has been coated with collodion, a base for photo emulsions, and then sensitized to light withsilver nitrate. While still wet, the plate is loaded into the camera, exposed to light and then processedby hand in the darkroom. The resulting image is one of a kind. These images are explorations of thephysical objects that make up our everyday lives, and how these simple objects become icons andrelics when removed from all contextual information.
