The fund also supportsthe NTRIB awards. The fund and the work of the board are aimed atsupporting, stimulating and fostering research and innovation as part of thedevelopment of a Northern Territory knowledge-based economy. A principalobjective is to build resident research capacity and to draw researchinvestment into the Territory. The fund is held in trust by the Charles DarwinUniversity.The board is currently reviewing its role to maximise the leverage itachieves in supporting the research and innovation initiatives that are ofeconomic, social and environmental benefit to the Territory and its citizens.The fund’s balances are as follows:NT Research and Innovation Fund – Balance as at 30 June 2010Committed funds¹ $839 376Uncommitted funds² $166 545Funds held in trust by Charles Darwin University $1 005 921¹ Funds which have been awarded by the NTRIB and approved by theMinister for Business and Employment, to research and innovation projectapplicants since the inception of the program but not yet expended.² Funds retained to cover NTRIB approved initiatives.Department of Business and Employment Annual Report 2009–10191
