Student HappeningsPrep Mock Trial Team Competes at Stamford Superior CourtOn March 27, the Prep Mock Trial Team participated in theRegional Finals of the Connecticut Mock Trial competitionat the Stamford Superior Court. The team, consisting of 21students from all four classes, had worked for over threemonths preparing for the competition. The students formedtwo teams, one for the plaintiff and one for the defendant, toargue a civil case in which the plaintiff had suffered severeinjuries from a fire in a barn owned by the defendant. Prepcompeted against seven other schools from <strong>Fairfield</strong> County.Stephen Donahue ’92 was the faculty advisor to the team,and he was assisted by Stephen Donahue ’62 and ChristineDonahue Brown, local attorneys. Seniors Peter Walsh, RichardJohnson and Steve Habetz participated on the teams sincetheir freshman year. Many of the underclassmen wereinvolved as attorneys, witnesses and understudies to theattorneys and witnesses. At the competition, the team wonboth of their matches and advanced to the state semi-finalsin April. At the semi-finals, Prep lost by a close margin, butit was a great overall victory to advance to a high level ofcompetition.Hilton and Kee named State Finalistsin the 2009 Connecticut Science FairNick Hilton’11 and Adam Kee ’12 were both named Finalistsin the 2009 Connecticut Science Fair held at QuinnipiacUniversity in Hamden. Nick’s project, “A Comparison ofFermentation Rates among Yeast Cultures with ElectricalField Present,” culminatedin both a Finalist and SpecialAward. The SpecialAward was a check fromNortheast Utilities, EnvironmentalStudies department.Adam’sproject wasa study ofalgae as abio fuel.Adam Kee ’12Nick Hilton ’11Socks for the Bridgeport Rescue <strong>Miss</strong>ionFor the fourth year, the Spanish Honor Society conducteda drive to collect socks for the Bridgeport Rescue <strong>Miss</strong>ion.Bags and bags of socks were gathered by the Prep communityto be distributed to women, children and men throughoutthe Bridgeport area.
