VOL. XXIX. JUNE I, 1908 Ivo. 11THE EDITOR'STo THE DEAR BIBLE HOUSE FA~IIT~Y,ALLEGHENY, PA.About noon (April 16th) we reached Leicester andwere warmly welcomed by about eighteen dear brothersand sisters, whose greetings were most heartyand were expressed by the radiant faces andgrasp of the hand. Brother and Sister Allsopmost cordially entertained us. The afternoon discourseto the interested was held in their usual hall, about IOO being present, including about 50 visitingbrethren. Three years ago there were no meetingshere and only about three interested in Present Truth. The evening meeting was held in Temperance Halland, considering it was the night before a holiday, waswell attended, about 600 being present. The audiencewas a remarkably intelligent one and gave close attentionto the "Overthrow of Satan's Empire." Despiteour protests and the fact that our train for Glasgowleft at 2 a.m., about a dozen of the friends stayed withus and accompanied us to the station. We thanked Godfor them as we beheld their love and zeal, and prayedfor them heavenly compensations of spiritual rest andrefreshment.Glasgow, Scotland, was reached by 10 the nextmorning. As we alighted we were surrounded by aboutforty dear Brothers and Sisters-some of whom hadbeen waiting there for us for three hours-and, as theysaid, for three years ; for when leaving them in1903, we had purposed returning in 1905. Some ingreeting us remarked that the day was the anniversaryof the day of our Lord's return from the dead. We returnedtheir hearty greetings and smiles and handshakesto the best of our ability-inwardly commentingon the effect of the Truth and its spirit-so unlikeanything else in the world. Brother Edgar, M.D.,claimed us as his guest, and arriving at his home wewere warmly welcomed by Sister Edgar and othersawaiting our arrival. At 3 p.m. of April 17thTHE GLASGOW CONVENTlON OPENED IN VICTORIACHAMBERSWe cannot undertake a report of it in the propersense of that word, but can tell you briefly littlemore than your own experiences at other conventionsBRITISH TOUR(Continued)16:would tell you, viz., that it was a season of refreshinglong to be remembered. We had nothing to do withthe program and hence had nothing to do with the ap-parent monopolizing of the Convention's time. Wemerely submitted to the wishes of the dear friends andserved their desires to the extent of our ability. The Convention was opened by a brief address ofwelcome by Brothers Edgar, Hemery and ourself, expressingthe greetings of the Glasgow Church and ofthe Society to all in attendance, with hopes for theLord's blessing upon the Convention. This was followedby an address by Brother Johnson on "The Joyof the Lord." Next came a precious testimony meeting, after which we had tea, and following this at 7.30we spoke on "The Resurrection," noting the fact thatthe day was the true anniversary of that great event. The discourse was published as our Sunday topic, withsome variations. We were most hospitably entertainedby Brother John Edgar, M.D., and wife, and after amost refreshing sleep we were ready for the second dayof the Convention.Saturday, April 18th, opened with a "ColporteurMeeting" in the forenoon. We spoke for two hours tothe colporteurs, sharpshooters and volunteers on thecharacter, importance and methods of the Harvestwork. Incidentally we assured them of our agreeablesurprise that the British work had so remarkably progressedduring the five years since our last visit; andthat we foresaw still greater things in their midst forsome years to come. And here we assure you all thatundoubtedly God has many loyal children in Britain forwhom the Harvest message will surely be "meat in dueseason." Their awakening time has come ! The "NewTheology," Theosophy, Christian Science and Socialismare awakening public thought along religious lines;and all this must innure to their preparation for "TheOld Theology" of the Bible, which we have for them.In the afternoon we answered questions for an hour-nearly allof which werequite to the point, the audienceshowing keen appreciation of the Truth. Dr. J. Edgarfollowed us in a very helpful address on "Humility."Then came tea, and after it our discourse on "Baptism,"closing another interesting and, we trust, profitable day.
