General Information VENUE The PANAFRICAN Congress of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery will take place at the Congress & Exhibition Center of the SAFARI PARK HOTEL, in Nairobi, Kenya LANGUAGE English will be the official language of the Congress. There will be no simultaneous translation in other languages. AUDIOVISUAL EQUIPMENT Audiovisual Equipment of the latest technology will be used in all Meeting Halls INTERNET SITE All useful information about the PANAFRICAN Congress of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery will be available on line at the following web site address: www.pacprs2010.com EXHIBITION During the Congress an exhibition of scientific products, equipment and pharmaceutical machines will take place. SPEAKERS’ PREVIEW ROOM Speakers’ Pre View Room will be located close to the secretariat. All powerpoint flies must be delivered to the Speakers’ Pre View Room at least one hour before the session starts. Data files must be on CD-Rom or USB stick and cannot be delivered in the session rooms in order to avoid delay and projection problems. Opening hours of the Speakers’ Pre View Room the same as Secretariat’s. NAME BADGES You may receive your personal name badge at the Congress Secretariat. For security purposes, delegates, accompanying persons and exhibitors must wear their name badges throughout the congress and to all social events. There will be different colours in the upper side of the badge indicating special categories. CERTIFICATES OF ATTENDANCE Certificates of Attendance will be issued by the Congress Secretariat at the end of the congress. INSURANCE Registration fees do not include insurance of participants against cancellation, accidents, theft or property loss. Participants should arrange for their own insurance. CONGRESS SECRETARIAT The official Congress Secretariat is ZITA Congress S.A. The Congress Secretariat will be located at a central point of Meeting Hall foyer. 14
Κenya For a country of its size, Kenya sure packs a lot in: mountains and deserts, colourful tribal culture, beaches and coral reefs, and some of Africa’s best wildlife attractions. In fact, to say Kenya is Africa in microcosm would not be stretching the point. There are a million different reasons to come here, and picking just one is nigh impossible. Stunning landscapes set the scene, from Kakamega’s rainforests to Indian Ocean beaches by way of Mt Kenya National Park; the rolling grasslands of the Masai Mara to searing deserts on the shores of the Jade Sea; with The Rift Valley, home to Hell's Gate National Park, cleaving a massive gash through it all. The people, too, represent a wide cross-section of everything that is contemporary Africa, and everyday life brings together traditional tribes and urban families; ancient customs and modern sensibilities. Swapping the latest political gossip with the switched-on locals is just one more small pleasure that comes with the culture. Nairobi Kenya’s capital city has risen in a single century from a brackish uninhabited swampland to a thriving modern capital. When railway construction workers reached this area in 1899, they set up a basic camp and supply depot, simply called ‘Mile 327’. The local Maasai called this highland swamp Ewaso Nai’beri – the place of cold water. The camp became a rustic village, and then a shanty town, which by 1907 was the capital of all of British East Africa. It was soon an important centre for the colony and a mecca for adventurers, hunters and travellers from all over the world. Modern Nairobi is still the safari capital of the Africa, but the modern world has quickly caught up with the city. A frontier town no more, Nairobi has become one of Africa’s largest, and most interesting cities. Nairobi is a city that never seems to sleep. The entire town has a boundless energy, and is thriving place where all of human life can be found. This is a place of great contrasts where race, tribe and origin all become facets of a unique Nairobi character. From the wildlife to the nightlife, Nairobi is a city unlike any other. With a fantastic music scene, excellent international restaurants and an endless and colourful array of shops and markets, there is plenty on offer for the visitor. 15
