Therefore, it is very much essential forthem to understand the various development approaches for a sustainable agriculture in theNorth East India. <strong>Farming</strong> System Research and Extension (FSR/E) is one of the importantapproaches and it is essential for the agricultural development professionals to have anunderstanding and clarity about the terms and concepts of <strong>Farming</strong> System Research andExtension. In this publication, an attempt is made to clarify the concepts for a betterunderstanding about the farming system research and extension in the context of farmingsystem research and extension oriented development in North East India (Hereafter mentionedas North East Region).The book systematically presents the diverse research activities and developmentapproaches commonly incorporated under the umbrella term of <strong>Farming</strong> <strong>Systems</strong> Research andExtension. An extensive district wise compilation of agricultural situation is provided in chapter3.
