- 17 -If correcting a problem causing a violation of the permit requires additional time,the following deadlines apply:Corrective Actions That:Must Be Completed:Can be accomplished withrelatively simple adjustments toyour control measures;As soon as possible, but no laterthan two weeks after the discoveryof the problem.Can be accomplished with existingpersonnel and resources; and,Do not require the vessel to be ondrydockRequire new parts or the installationof new equipment, andDo not require the vessel to be ondrydockNo later than three months after thediscovery of the problem, unlessthis is impracticable, in which caseyou must:Complete repairs as soon aspossible after three months, andDocument the reason why moretime is needed as part of yourcorrective action assessment.Require large or comprehensivealterations or repairs to the vessel;and,Prior to re-launching the vesselafter its next scheduled drydocking.Require the vessel to be on drydockNote: The initial occurrence of a problem identified in this section constitutes a violationof the VGP. Failure to conduct the corrective action assessment and carry out correctiveactions in compliance with this section constitutes an additional permit violation.Conducting the corrective action assessment and correcting the problem does not absolveyou of liability for the original violation. However, EPA will consider theappropriateness and promptness of corrective action in determining enforcementresponses to permit violations. EPA also reserves the right to impose additionalcorrective action requirements or more stringent deadlines for corrective action thanthose identified here.
