ACE is oneof six academies on the Arsenal Tech campus and strives to serve the arts-driven child. Our mission isto provide a rigorous, well-rounded education in a nurturing environment that will enable ourstudents to graduate from high school and successfully pursue the post-secondary education or careerof their choice, as well as be proficient creators, performers, critics, listeners, and observers of the arts.Students who choose ACE do not have to be proficient artists to join, but artistic expression should bean interest, and they should make it a goal to participate in arts-focused classes and extra-curricularactivities during their high school career at Arsenal Tech. We encourage our students to take severalarts electives ranging from ceramics and sculpture, to orchestra and Gospel Choir. We believe the artsare not just a wonderful engagement tool to help enhance our students’ academic work and encouragecompletion of the Core 40 curriculum, but that they are indeed necessary for the full appreciation andenjoyment of life. As the Academic Dean of International Academy (IA), I hope that each of you is enjoying asafe and healthy summer. I had the opportunity to visit with many of you that are participating in the AcademicSummer School. It was inspirational to see you each striving towards your academic goals.The teachers of IA are also participating in professional development this summer that will furtherenhance the capacities for doing all we can as a team to help you reach your goals. Your request for morechoices of challenging AP courses was heard. In addition to the AP U.S. History, AP Chemistry, and APEnglish Literature, you may now request the following courses: AP Art History and AP Spanish. You will alsobe seeing several new faces when you come back to school. We are happy to welcome Mr. Godsey as theBiology and Advanced Environmental Science teacher; Mr. Dinkins, the English 11 and English 12 teacher;and Mrs. Megan and Mrs. Butts who will teach algebra and geometry, respectively. As a campus, we embraceMrs. DeWitt, our new Assistant Campus Administrator of Building and Grounds and Dr. Robinson as the LeadGuidance Counselor. We wish them the best as they take their new positions at Tech.The 07-08 school year promises to be a year of opportunities for all students in IA. We continue toaggressively pursue the ability to enable you to earn college credits while still in high school. Once approved,this effort will require maximum effort from students and teachers to sustain the district’s efforts to make this areality for you, the students of IPS.There will be registration and orientations for all IA students. These are the dates to remember:July 30 th , 1:00 - 4:00 is the IA Registration/Orientation (Freshmen Only), in theAnderson Auditorium.
