There was agreat bay before them, at least four miles wide, surrounded bythousand foot cliffs all along the far side. In the bay was aring of lower islands, but in the center of that was a smallerbay, nearly a mile wide, and in the center of that, yet anotherisland. The palace she saw at Knossos was a country cottagecompared to the city that covered the islands in this great bay.Great canals had been carved thru the inner island and thoserowboats covered the water, along with sailing ships of everydescription.
