<strong>Sierra</strong> <strong>Club</strong>-<strong>John</strong> <strong>Muir</strong> <strong>Chapter</strong><strong>2010</strong> Accomplishments & ActivitiesThe <strong>Sierra</strong> <strong>Club</strong> also supported tripling the Focus onEnergy budget for energy efficiency investments, and thiswas approved by the Joint Finance Committee.Our Political Committee also worked to elect proconservationcandidates in the fall election. Although wesaw the defeat of Russ Feingold and other champions, theelections also included some silver linings. Hundreds ofvolunteersworked onbehalf ofcandidates inlocal, state andnational races,and 58% ofendorsedcandidatesprevailed. Keyvictories included the electionof former Milwaukee CountySupervisor Chris Larson to theState Senate, and the reelectionof former <strong>Chapter</strong>Chair Penny Bernard Schaberto the Assembly.We also completed a strategicplanning session that willincrease our organizationaleffectiveness moving forward.Key results includedtransitioning to a moreprogrammatic budget;improving committee functionand connections among the<strong>Chapter</strong>, groups, and sections; and expanding our focus toissues surrounding Wisconsin’s Land & Water Ethic.Community Shares and Workplace GivingThe <strong>Sierra</strong> <strong>Club</strong> Foundation—<strong>John</strong> <strong>Muir</strong> <strong>Chapter</strong> is a memberof Community Shares of Wisconsin (CSW) and CommunityShares of Greater Milwaukee (CSGM). We work with thesepartners to address environmental, social, and economicproblems through grassroots action, advocacy, research andeducation. Community Shares supports its member groupsthrough workplace giving and technical support and training.Campaigns allow employees to support local nonprofitsconveniently through automatic paycheck donations.
