Welcometo our 11th Annual Production SaleThanks for looking through our sale book. We hope we have the opportunity to meet you and showyou our cattle. We invite you to come and join us on sale day for some lunch and good company with yourfellow cattlemen.We feel like this is possibly the best set of bulls we have ever offered. That may sound like a brokenrecord from a breeder, but we truly feel like we’ve got a set of bulls this year that hit the mark for theindustry and our western cattle herd. We’ve tried not to get caught up strictly in a race for the biggestnumbers, and there are several sire groups that offer moderate framed, easy-fleshing bulls with lots ofmuscle. Where we have selectively used some of the outstanding growth bulls available we have tried toavoid extreme frame size and complement the cow by their use.This year all the spring cows ran southwest of Arco on the Blizzard Mountain allotment and the fallcows went on the desert by the big Southern Butte. The country is steep and rocky as you may tell fromsome of the pictures in the sale book. These bull calves have followed their mothers to the tops of thesehills for feed and back down to water all summer, so they know how to travel. They must be structurallyfunctional with sound feet and legs to survive. After weaning, the bull calves spent about six weeks out ongrass and the fall bulls never saw a feed bunk until they were over a year old, so they have all learned toforage on their own. You may find bigger and fleshier bulls to buy, but we feel like these bulls are preparedand conditioned to meet your needs as well as any around.There seems to be a sense of optimism in the cattle industry today. The future looks good and it maybe as good a time as any to invest in some quality genetics. It takes some time to develop a flawless cowherd and we certainly don’t think we’re there yet, but we are pleased with the results of almost 20 yearsof selective AI breeding and continued emphasis on function and performance. It takes discipline for acattleman, even in a commercial herd, to avoid extremes and stay focused on producing economicallyfunctional cattle. It’s even harder as a seed stock producer because our customers are comparing our cattlewhile they are under the most ideal of conditions, not when they are out on the range at work. Thus thetemptation to breed bigger framed cattle with lots of numbers and sometimes too much milk.This year 83% of the bulls in the sale will be the result of a mating to a proven A.I. sire. We have a goodselection of sons from several of the industry’s leading sires providing an opportunity to purchase severalhalf brothers. The commercial heifers offered will be herd mates to the bulls and will represent about everysire group.Thanks again for considering us as a source for your future genetics.
