Although those areimportant duties, the <strong>Security</strong> <strong>Force</strong>scareer field has evolved into a combatexpeditionary force supporting worldwidecontingencies.From protecting people and supplies inconvoy operations, and securing flightlines and munitions areas to off-basepatrols and detainee operations at militaryprisons, <strong>Air</strong> <strong>Force</strong> <strong>Security</strong> <strong>Force</strong>s are astrong front line of defense.To meet current and future securitydemands of the war on terrorism, today’s<strong>Security</strong> <strong>Force</strong>s <strong>Air</strong>men must meet highstandards of excellence and specializedskills in order to defend people andresources under their protection. <strong>Security</strong><strong>Force</strong>s are essential to the <strong>Air</strong> <strong>Force</strong>’sability to project airpower worldwide.TRAININGFollowing completion of Basic MilitaryTraining at Lackland <strong>Air</strong> <strong>Force</strong> Base,Texas, you’ll attend the <strong>Air</strong> <strong>Force</strong> <strong>Security</strong><strong>Force</strong>s Academy also at Lackland. This 65-day course teaches the fundamentals ofintegrated base defense, along withsecurity and convoy operations, protectionof nuclear weapons and law enforcement.As you gain experience in <strong>Security</strong> <strong>Force</strong>s,new levels of responsibilities and trainingbecome available for jobs such as militaryworking dog handler and combat armsspecialist.More advanced training includes militarypolice investigator, traffic accidentinvestigator, sensor system operator, andclose precision engagement (sniper) teammember. You may even volunteer forairborne operations training if assigned toone of three select <strong>Security</strong> <strong>Force</strong>s units inthe United States, Europe and Pacific.CASH FOR COLLEGEJoining the <strong>Air</strong> <strong>Force</strong> is a great way to getmoney for college. After just three years ofhonorable active-duty service you’ll beeligible for the Post-9/11 GI Bill benefits.We also pay up to 100 percent of tuitionand fees for courses you take during youroff-duty time.In addition, your <strong>Security</strong> <strong>Force</strong>s technicaltraining earns college credit leading to anassociate in applied science degree throughthe Community College of the <strong>Air</strong> <strong>Force</strong>.
