Dr. Eisen served asan obstetrician/gynecologist.Dr. James GARRIOCK, in his 88th year, onSeptember 14, 2006, in Clinton, ON. Survivedby his wife Sheila Haywood and three sons,David, Ian, Philip, and seven grandchildren,James practised family medicine in Woodbridgefor many years, serving the village and rural community,spending the latter part of his career inBolton. He was appointed assistant professor tothe Faculty of Medicine at U of T and amongother hospital appointments he served as chief ofstaff at Peel Memorial Hospital. For many yearshe was coroner for York and Peel Counties,retiring in 1974. He was granted Life Membershipto the College of Family Physicians of Canada.CLASS OF 1952Dr. Earl Francis MAHONEY, on May 21,2006, in Castro Valley, CA. Predeceased by hisson Mark in 2004, Earl is survived by his wife,Betz, and two sons. Dr. Mahoney settled in CastroValley in 1960 where he served at Eden andDoctors’ hospitals until 1984. He was a diplomateof the American Board of Anesthesiology.Dr. Robert Edward TURNER, inhis 81st year, on July 27, 2006, inToronto. His wife of 54 years, Jan,four children and eight grandchildrenmourn his passing. A pioneer in forensicpsychiatry, Dr. Turner served at TorontoPsychiatric Hospital, the Clarke Institute ofPsychiatry and Metropolitan Toronto ForensicService. He was a professor emeritus at U of T.Dr. Thomas Lawrence WALKER, in his 84thyear, on July 19, 2006, in Chatham, ON. Larrywas Ruth’s beloved husband for 56 years.Predeceased by his son Tom in 1989, Larry issorely missed by his three children and sevengrandchildren. Dr. Walker served in Chathamfrom 1956 to April 2006. He was chief of staff atSt. Joseph’s Hospital from 1965 to 1971.CLASS OF 1953Dr. John PETERSON, in his 82nd year, onSept. 10, 2006, in Toronto. Bernice’s much lovedhusband for 60 years, John leaves behind threechildren and two grandchildren. Dr. Sennled Sunnybrook Hospital’s clinical hematologydepartment for nearly 40 years while researchingleukemia and bone marrow cancer. His wife,Jean, three children and five grandchildren cherishJohn’s memory.CLASS OF 1956Dr. Thomas O. ASHWELL,at age 73, on March 25, 2006, in Jamestown,ND. After practising in Smith Falls,ON, Dr. Ashwell joined the DakotaClinic in Jamestown in 1979. Dr.Ashwell was a fellow of HarvardMedical School. In 1983, hemoved to Halifax to continue his research andteach at Dalhousie University. His legacy is ourincreased understanding of lupus, transplantation,the mind-body connection, and the role of dietand herbal medicine on immune function.He is missed by his wife, Nancy, and two children.Dr. Walter O. SPITZER, at age 69, on April 27,2006, in Kingston due to complications from arecent car accident. Walter is sorely missed by hiswife, Carmen, seven children and 10 grandchildren.An epidemiologist and educator, Dr. Spitzerserved at McMaster University, McGill Universityand Stanford University. His wife, Rena, twochildren and two stepsons cherish his memory.CLASS OF 1965Dr. Ralph Morton PRICE, in his67th year, on Sept. 16, 2006, inBowmanville, ON. Ralph was thebeloved husband of Patricia (nee Hoare)and the loved father of Kim and her husbandBruce; Matthew; Taylor and his fiancée, Sylvia, aswell as two dear grandchildren. A family doctorin Brooklin, Port Perry and Blackstock, he practisedfor over 40 years.
