Organization of the EvangelicalLutheran Synod of WisconsinTranslated by Arnold O. LehmannOn December 8,1849 Pastors Muehlhaeuser, Wrede, Weinmann and Meis met inMilwaukee in the church meeting room of the Bvangelical Lutheran congregationto consider and to address mutually the important matter of organizing a synod in Wisconsin.This meeting was opened with a hymn and prayer, after which the matter in question wasplaced on the table for discussion. After addressing the same from all angles the preachersunanimously desired and deemed it necessary to start a synod in Wisconsin immediately,and then resolved:1. that the synod which is to be founded bear the name "The First GermanEvangelical Lutheran Synod of Wisconsin" and that this specific nameand title remain with it forever;2. that for this time the officers of said synod be elected for a period of twoyears.In this election the following persons were chosen as officers:Pastor Muehlhaeuser as presidentPastor Weinmann as secretaryPastor Wrede as treasurerTIle president, Pastor Muehlhaeuser, was then instructed to write a constitution whichwould embody the confessions of the synod, and to do this as quickly as possible.Finally, as the last item on the table, it was resolved that the next year's synodconvention be held on May 27, 1850 in Granville, Wisconsin, to which members are to bringalong their annual reports.Done on December 8, 1849 in MilwaukeeJohn Weinmann3
