CLOANTO RELEASESAMIGA FOREVER AND C64 FOREVER 2013May 10, 2013 - Cloanto released today Amiga Forever 2013and C64 Forever 2013, the latest versions of the award-winningCommodore-Amiga preservation, emulation and supportsuites for Windows. The 2013 editions for Windows had a focus on making thesoftware easier to use, while providing new and more powerfulfeatures for advanced users and content creators. Forexample, the packages are easier to download and install, and emulated systems can be "repaired" with one click afterunintended changes. Power users can now build ISO imagesand portable USB drive environments, use the visual ScreenClip Editor to better blend old screen modes into modernsystems, or experiment with the new WinFellow emulationplugin or with a fresh build of the AROS Research OS. Outsidethe player, the RP9 thumbnail handler adds a new levelof eye candy to File Explorer."One of the most fascinating challenges of user interface designhas to be how to please both novice and sophisticatedusers. The attempt to keep things as simple as possible oftenlimits learning and can be perceived as a 'dumbingdown' by a more demanding audience," noted Cloanto'sMike Battilana."Even looking at recent versions of Windows, Mac OS andLinux, you can feel the pain of some choices. In today'ssearch engines, queries that used to work reliably have becomeless precise. Word processors won't let you select theexact characters you want. Lacking perfect artificial intelligence,we are increasingly being autocorrected beyond recognition.C64 Forever brings us back to an era in which users knewthat they were, or could be, in complete control of the machine, rather than vice versa. Tens of millions of home computerscame with a powerful reminder of this, as theyincluded a programming manual. Even today, the Amiga continuesto inspire for how it elegantly met the needs of differentaudiences, leaving a feeling of freedom rather than oneof artificial limitations. In addition to preserving access to adigital culture of tens of thousands of games, demo scenecreations and other titles, we are trying to introduce newgenerations to these different angles, as we are convincedthat this deeper perspective can help achieve a better viewof the future too."In Amiga Forever and C64 Forever 2013, the same interfacetransparently connects to three different emulation engines, giving consistent access to more than 25 computer models, all with fully licensed operating systems. The shared RP9file format makes titles easily portable across computersand software versions. While novice users only need topress Play, advanced users can Edit titles and browsethrough options that are designed to also help understandhow the software works.Newswww.commodorefree.comAmiga Forever 2013 is available now in three editions:- Value Edition (downloadable installer)- Plus Edition (downloadable installer with option to buildDVD ISO image)- Premium Edition (downloadable Plus Edition plus boxedsoftware and additional videos on 3 DVDs)C64 Forever 2013 is available now in three editions:- Free Express Edition (feature-limited version)- Downloadable Plus Edition (downloadable installer withoption to build CD ISO image)- Boxed Plus Edition (downloadable Plus Edition plus boxedCD)Amiga Forever and C64 Forever passed official Windows 8logo tests on both x86 and x64 systems. For some time now Flimsoft has had to put a couple of releaseson hold for various reasons, mainly due to myself beinga full time worker and full time father. For those of youwho do the same as me, you’ll realise how time consumingthis all can be, let alone running a very busy C64 softwarehouse.I have recently had a couple of weeks off from work, andhave put a lot of my time and energy into getting Flimsoftback in business with release dates and finding a suitableillustrator/s for our artwork. It has taken some time to arrangethings, and it has paid off without a doubt.First up then are a few things announced a couple of monthsago: Budget Squad titles of Morph 64, Chang’s Adventure, andThe Cursed Key. These releases are still in the pipeline, andwill still be only cassette releases. At the moment, it lookslike Chang's Adventure will be the first to be released in thisseries. However, I am sure there will be diskette releases inthe future if the Budget Squad series proves to be popular.Newswww.commodorefree.comOur next big new release is entitled Outbreak, which is anice puzzler from an American game programmer by thename of Tony Fruzza. I have test played this and it is all comingtogether very nicely indeed. It is reminiscent to the popularNintendo NES game Dr. Mario, but not completely aclone (unlike the numerous Tetris clones which havecropped up over the years). The theme of Outbreak is goingto be along the lines of B-Movie genre. This stunning imageof the inlay cover was designed by a good friend of mine -Jon Hopkins. Players of Outbreak rotate coloured capsules inorder to eradicate the vile virus that is rapidly spreading...now I did say reminiscent?).Outbreak artwork by Jon HopkinsThe player almost faces the outbreakChang's Adventure artwork by Danny TolchardCommodore Free Magazine Page 15
