He collaborated withAllen Ginsberg on Illuminated Poems, anddesigned the animation for the movie Howl.A Chicagoland native, Matt Silady(moderator) is author of the Eisner-nominatedgraphic novel The Homeless Channel, andchair of the MFA in Comics Program atCalifornia College of the Arts.Owen Smith has created illustrations for TheNew Yorker (18 covers), Sports Illustrated,Time, Rolling Stone, New York Times and LosAngeles Times. One of his New Yorker coverswon the 2007 Cover of the Year from theAmerican Society of Magazine Editors. He isfeatured in various books about illustration andfine art, including Illustration: A Visual Historyand Rolling Stone: The Illustrated Portraits.Tom Toro is a cartoonist for The New Yorkerand a writer of fiction, children’s picturebooks, and screenplays. He was comics editorfor the Yale Herald. After graduating cumlaude, he went to NYU Film School and wascinematographer on projects that premieredat Sundance, Tribeca and Cannes.Mark Ulriksen lives in San Francisco andhas been a regular contributor of cover art(45 to date) and article illustrations for TheNew Yorker since 1993. He recently wrotehis first book, combining his observationsand paintings on a favorite subject, entitledDogs Rule, Nonchalantly.52
