Newberry College...And The Newberry Community•Newberry College has an annual budget of over $16,500,000.• The College employs about 225 people—165 salaried and 60 hourly.•The monthly payroll exceeds $600,000 and monthly purchases andcontracts average $700,000.•Over 900 students and 225 employees make purchases in thecommunity every day.•The College sponsors around 60 cultural events each year—concerts,plays, art exhibits, lectures.•The College hosts around 175 sporting events per year with their 15NCAA Division II teams—8 men, 7 women.•A number of off-campus groups use college facilities for special events.For example, the SC Lutheran Synod Assembly and the SC LutheranYouth Convention each bring over 400 people into the community.We also host the South Carolina Women of the ELCA, a state-wideROTC camp, the South Carolina Middle and Senior High Jazz BandCompetition, the South Carolina Middle and High School ScienceOlympiads, the South Carolina Guidance Counselor Conference,several athletic camps, and many more.• Special events such as Homecoming, graduations in May andDecember, Convocations, and accreditation visits in multiple programsbring thousands of visitors to Newberry.A study conducted by the Newberry Chamber of Commerce in 1998concluded the College has the following economic impact on thecity.
