Atotal of 333,541 passenger boardings were recorded andthe number continues a steady increase in ridershipduring Fiscal Year 2006-2007, which began July 1, 2006.LexTran General Manager Terry Garcia Crews said, "Thisnumber translates to a daily average of 11,000 passengerboardings, nearly twice the monthly average of less thantwo years ago." Enhanced routes and new services havegrown LexTran's service area by 50-percent since passageof the 2004 property tax referendum, which fundsLexTran.ISBO.biz meeting is January 8, 2007ISBO.biz, a group of Independent/Small BusinessOwners, meets at noon on the second Monday of eachmonth at Golden Buffet on Richmond Road. ED NEWS TO USEREGIONALISM:The Bluegrass Alliance, Central Kentucky's regionaleconomic development networking group, hosted aholiday reception to thank Kentucky Cabinet forEconomic Development staff for their hard work overthe past year. Commerce Lexington, as well as thesurrounding county economic developmentorganization's, partner with the Cabinet on projectsthroughout the year and rely on their expertise tocreate new jobs for the region. The event was wellattended and representatives from all Cabinetdivisions were in attendance.SPECIAL EVENTS:Manufacturers Networking Group: TheManufacturers Networking Group finished the yearwith its last meeting at Big Ass Fans. The localmanufacturing representatives learned more aboutBig Ass Fans and toured its new headquarters, as wellas discussing the newly formed ManufacturersTraining Consortium.BY THE NUMBERS - 2006 SUMMARY:Commerce Lexington's Economic DevelopmentDivision has responded to calls from the followingthis year: New Business: 100 new prospects interested infinding a new location or expanding operations; Existing Clients & Local EntrepreneurialCompanies: 27 companies with potential expansionsin Lexington; Client Visits: 19; and Existing Business Visits: 103.In 2005, we responded to 94 calls from new business,existing, and entrepreneurial clients. Economic Development DivisionHot Growth CompaniesCeradyne Inc. is growingagain! Ceradyne recentlyannounced a newproduct line - the electrongun. The electron gun(or e-gun) is being developed by Semicon Associates, a division ofCeradyne Inc. in Lexington. Ceradyne is best known formanufacturing ceramic armor for bullet-proof vests used in themilitary. The e-gun will also be used in defense work; the newproduct, which creates electrons, will shoot at a high speed towardspecific targets. The new project will create 32 new jobs forLexington over the next several years with average salaries between$30,000 and $75,000 a year.Lexington Venture ClubThe next Lexington VentureClub event will be the annual"Who Got the Money"Reception on January 25 atColdstream ResearchCampus. The event willhonor entrepreneurial andstart-up companies whoreceived funding (venturecapital, angel investment,etc.) in 2006.
