On Saturday, <strong>May</strong> 12, bouquets of flowers will symbolize thegift of friendship the Women’s Guild of <strong>First</strong> <strong>Community</strong> represents. That is theday for the Spring Event, a luncheon at Brookside Country Club from 11:30 am -2 pm. For 100 years the Women’s Guild has existed for friendship and service to<strong>First</strong> <strong>Community</strong> <strong>Church</strong>. On that afternoon, 100 years of gifts given and giftsreceived will be celebrated.All women are asked to bring personal care items to be placed in floral decoratedlaundry baskets. These items will be presented to Heart to Heart for distribution.To facilitate organizing the items, a list will be placed on each basket. In addition,table decorations, which are floral centerpieces, will be raffled.Each Guild Group is asked to make a $25 contribution to the Guild Board. This willhelp defray expenses. Moores Campus Center, 2199 E. Main Street.It is no secret that Charlie Nichols’ faith is lived very vividlythrough tireless practical service. Charlie has dedicatedhis entire adult life, including his retirement years, to hisvocation of helping refugees and other at-risk populations.In the early 1970s, Charlie, his wife Cathie and a fewothers from <strong>First</strong> <strong>Community</strong> <strong>Church</strong> set up a “task force”to support a growing number of refugee families seekingassistance.The Refugee Task Force is now a vibrant ministry of thischurch and through it Charlie has helped hundreds ofrefugee families as they seek to settle in Columbus. Heactively, resourcefully and lovingly sees that they learn to speak English, learn todrive, attend city schools, secure housing, have a car and work toward citizenship.Charlie’s living faith is a bright light that inspires bold action and has givencountless people real hope and new life.Bob Fenner is another person among us who is living hisfaith in powerful ways. He was nominated for this awardby LifeCare Alliance where he has given countless hoursto serving those in need. He epitomizes their mission to“nourish the human spirit.”Our community has been blessed by Bob’s faithful andconsistent work as church treasurer and FoundationBoard treasurer from 2005-2011. For more than 30 years,Bob has continued his grandfather’s insurance business,Thomas-Fenner-Woods Agency, Inc. He advocates aculture of philanthropy within his company, encouragingand supporting his staff’s involvement in local charity efforts. A believer in activecommunity involvement, Bob participates in numerous local organizations toimpact the lives of young and old. Bob has touched countless lives with his caringspirit, tenderness and his genuine desire to help others.In celebration of their 50 th anniversary, the CMACC has invited The Rev.
